Botulinum Toxin
Botulinum toxin (commonly referred to as botox) is a prescription only medication used to reduce wrinkle formation through preventing muscle contraction. It works through disturbing the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which results in muscle paralysis. This prevents the muscles repetitive contracting motions which cause the skin to crease, resulting in reduction of wrinkles forming within the skin.
Results are seen a few days after treatment and continue to improve over two weeks, with movement gradually returning over 12-16 weeks.
While primarily used for prevention, botox can also help soften already formed wrinkles. This minimally invasive treatment can be individualised to cater for a more soft, natural look through more movement. We offer dysport and xeomin brand in clinic.
